Saying Goodbye to My Father: Looking at Hospice through a Self-Reg Lens

This past summer my 91 year old father, who had been living independently in a retirement home, was suddenly admitted to hospital and then a few days later transitioned to palliative care. During his short time in our local hospice, I couldn’t help but look at the environment and programs there through a self-reg lens.

Lisa, I’m so very sorry to hear about your dad. Your post took me back to many years ago when my dad was in a facility in Toronto. While he wasn’t in hospice care, I keep thinking about the staff connections, the social experiences, and even the lighting choices. Could Self-Reg have been a part of their decisions as well? Sending love to you and your family!

I can only imagine what a whirlwind of a week it’s been. Glad that the hospice did what they could to reduce some stress along the way. Thinking about you and your family.
