Welcome to The Stressed Detective Mini-Movie Course!
Step inside to meet your new boss, Detective Bradford Cannon, and his sidekick Raylee Reframer, as they discuss how energy and tension can really impact Bradford's work and mood.
ADULTS & EDUCATORS: Over the following modules you will create your own "5 Step" or "5 Practice" Profile tool. This tool will be useful to you after the course as a Self-Reg reminder but also you can to edit and update these fillable PDFs as you continue on your Self-Reg journey.
FAMILIES: For each module we have an activity sheet for you to dive deeper into the concepts presented in the mini-movie video! These are adult and family-friendly activities that can even be brought into a classroom. Teenagers will be able to complete these activities independently with some discussion, but younger children may need your support and further explanation of the concepts.
You are welcome to do both hand knowledge streams if you would like!
Begin building your 5-Step Profile by starting with practice 4 Reflect. Try to come up with “10 signs I am overstressed.”
Dive Deeper by taking a look at the stressors in Bradford's Office and learn more about the Thayer Matrix.
The Triune Brain
Bradford and Raylee pay a visit to a familiar looking professor to get some information on the unusual flower they have found.
Heading to the docks to track down the source of the flowers, things get a little heated when Bradford takes a wrong turn and takes it out on Raylee.
Practice 2 of Self-Reg is Recognize the stressors across the five domains. See how many biological stressors you can list.
Let's take a closer look at what was going on between Bradford and Raylee and how their brains were talking to each other.
Fight, Flight & Freeze
Now lost and on the side of the road, tensions are high. Can Raylee shed some light on what is going on?
Dive Deeper with these Self-Reg Resources:
Reframing the Behaviour
Flashing back, Raylee explains to Bradford how reframing is the key to getting them back on track and seeing their outbursts for what they are: stress behaviours.
Self-Reg Practice 2: Recognize the stressors.
Start your list of cognitive domain stressors.
Just like Raylee, we need you to help us reframe some things we have seen in the movie up until now. See if you can match the "misbehaviour" to the right reframe.
Recognize The Stressors
Back on the road Bradford and Raylee run into a pizza delivery man (literally). After initial hostility, Raylee tries to get Bradford to use everything he has been learning about stress in this tricky situation.
For this module you can take a break from the profile tools, You deserve it! Instead, why don't you reflect on everything you have learned up until this point and focus on your personal Self-Reg.
Reduce the Stressors
Bradford and Raylee finally make it to the docks and find the foreman. Could she have an important lead on the flowers?
Reflect: Enhance Stress Awareness
Bradford and Raylee meet with an eccentric pair of gardeners whose awareness of the body and mind calm them in a greenhouse full of flowers.
Outside a spooky manor, Bradford hatches a (possibly illegal) plan to get inside and confront the sender of the Shankarian Stress Lilies. Raylee offers advice about Bradford's adaptive and maladaptive responses to stress.
Self-Reg Practice 3: Reduce the stress. Compile a list of ways to reduce stress across all 5 domains.
How we respond to stress is very important. Take a look at the ways that Bradford responds to his stress and see if you can come up with your own.
In the Manor
Inside the manor, Bradford and Raylee begin searching the many rooms filled with strange objects. Bradford and Raylee must lean on each other to get through and find the villain at large.
Self-Reg Practice 5: Respond: List some of the strategies you use to increase your energy and reduce tension.
Take a look at this fun little activity to show off just how different we all are and how we respond to stress and helps us to stay calm.
Try and Try Again
Searching for the culprit behind the flowers, Bradord and Raylee are confronted with another room in the mansion. Can Raylee stay cool and keep her eye on the target?
Bradford and Raylee come face to face with the culprit behind the flowers. What can we learn about a person who would do such a thing?
Ruckus at Scarwood Manor
Taking all that they have learned on their journey here, Bradford and Raylee see that there is more at play behind Scarwood's behaviour. Maybe he's not a bad guy after all?
Self-Reg Practice 1 Reframe the behaviour. List some of your past “misbehaviours” or “poor choices" that could be reframed as stress behaviours.
Take a look at some ideas for some great family Self-Reg activities. Perhaps after everything you have learned you even have an better idea for a fun activity?
Self-Reg: A New Hope
With the case all wrapped up, Bradford reflects on everything he has learned on the case of the Shankarian Stress Lilies.
Take this short quiz to test everything that you have learned with Bradford and Raylee, through the activities and from the profile tools you have put together.
